Subtitle VII-B of The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act authorizes the federal Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) Program and is the primary piece of federal legislation related to the education of children and youth experiencing homelessness.
The school helps those that may become homeless while in school. If someone is identified as homeless then the school has the responsibility to help the student with resources such as finding a safe home/apartment, transportation, hygiene supplies, funding to do laundry if needed, funding to replace lost or damaged documents, clothing, etc., so that the child is able to stay in school and not to accrue any absences.
